Books Onwards Style Guide

Rule 1: the rating system is to be in the form of a one line impressionist poem. The rating poem cannot include any reference to a “star” or number of “stars” or use of the words “out of” as in “4 out of 5”.
The rating line should generally follow the structure:

Quantifier – such as “one”, “a”, “seven heavy wet sacks”, “a nostril’s worth”;
Object – generally an animal, but “stone”, “unicorn”, “atom”, “carbuncle”, “gaseous cloud” and “overheated chocolate mousse left in the microwave accidentally-on-purpose” would all do;
Verb phrase (in the present tense) – such as “running and falling down”, “barking noiselessly”, “sighing”, or “susurrating very loudly, again!”
While the requirement of impressionist ratings is strict, the structure is not. “Two dogs” would be a fair enough rating, as would “seven heavy wet sacks of unicorn” or “a large stone that’s fallen over”.

Rule 2: Rule 1 is the only rule. Everything after this point is suggestive only.

#1: Be honest. But be worth reading.
#2: I’m interested in where and when you read, saw or heard whatever you’re writing about, and I think others would be too, so it would be great if you could include that somewhere in your post.
#3: Books we’ve read could somewhat accurately be interpreted to mean “Words we’ve heard in our head,” so reviews of audio books, radio broadcasts, songs, films, theatre, websites and conversations (both had and overheard) are welcome, as long as they follow both Rule 1 and Suggestion #1.
#4: Please include the title, author, and genre of the book in the labels associated with your post. (Of course, include anything else you might want to reference as well).

A FINAL NOTE:
When adding "Labels" to your post, please include the genre of the book, the author's name and the title of the work. This will help make the search cloud in the right hand corner of the page more effective.
Cheers!
